Tours, Tours and Tours...

As I have continued reading my book on Slash, I have started to read stories about them when they started touring with other bands since they started out as opening acts. There first time touring was with Motley Crue and they toured all over Canada and the United States. As I have continued reading, Slash was saying how much fun it was touring and how he never wanted to stop and just keep playing shows over and over and never go back home. Unfortunatly for Slash the tour eventualy came to a end and they went home to L.A., but about a month later their manager got them to tour with another band over in Germany. As they arrived in Germany they stayed in a small town in a hotel, and a few days later they went to a even bigger town and played shows. The reason im not saying the names of the towns and hotels is because I don't have a german keyboard so it would be hard to type the names of them. Now where was I... Oh yeah, they played all through Germany and something interesting that Slash said was that some parts of Germany were kind of dull boring and lifeless while others were full of excitement and energy. It seems to me that some parts of Germany haven't completely recovered from World War 2 or something but thats my guess. Anyways, they toured through Germany then went home and as soon as they got home they somehow got on tour with Aerosmith as their opening act. That was a big deal to Slash since Aerosmith was one of his favorite bands, so he was pretty excited. So Guns and Roses got to tour the United Kingdom with Aerosmith.

As I look over Slash's stories of touring, I could see that they woul;d be alot of fun but I also think of how home sick I would become. I mean touring other countries would be awesome but being away from your friends and family for like 6 months to a year or more, I would miss them all.

Their is nothing really I could relate to at this time but maybe in the future if my band, Lost and Forgotten, ever becomes famous and we start touring the I might possibly feel how Slash felt during his touring time.

Becoming Famous

So far I have read 171 out of 558 pages and recently I have been reading alot about when Slash and his band (Guns and Roses) were trying to find a producer. They have looked at a lot of potential producer but apparently none of the felt right to them, but if I was in their position I would have loved to have anyone of the producers that they had interviews with because they had some big time producers, like for exemple they had the producers from Aerosmith, Montley Crue, Poison and Stix. At one poit they even had Paul Stanley (singer and guitarist for KISS) but apparently Slash did not like that Paul was trying to change the way they sound so he kind of disliked him and Paul Stanley did not become their producer. Eventually they found a producer named Mike Clink (He worked with Heart and Jefferson Starship) and after one recording and listening to the play back they realised that he was the one. Mike signed Guns and Roses and they were given cash along with a small house for them to live in. Now that they have a producer they can start recording songs and becoming famous worldwide.

While I was reading this I realised that becoming a famous musician will take a long time to do because they wasted almost a whole year to find a producer and during that year they didn't play any gigs because they needed to do interviews and practice alot so they couldn't make any money and had to find places to live. Reading all this kind of interests me less in trying to get me and the band I am in famous but I think in the end it would all be worth it.

The first Gig

As I have continued to read the biography on Slash, I came across a cool story of him and his band’s first gig.  They were driving all the way from L.A. to Seattle and playing at clubs between the two cities.  After about driving 250 miles their car broke down and they had to push it to a gas station that was about 5 miles away. When they got there they found out that it would take a week for them to get the parts they needed, so they decided to walk to Seattle (were their finale show was suppose to be) and try to make at least one show. They left their “manager” behind with the car, took what they could carry and started walking.  They walked for about 100 miles when they started to hitchhike and got picked up by a trucker, who drove them almost the whole way but they ditched him because they decided that walking would be better than listening to some old annoying trucker. They walked to Seattle and made their finale show (which was actually their first show ever).

I would have to say that that journey took a lot of determination and group effort being that everyone in the band made the long walk.  Within this story I figured out another thing me and Slash have in common, DETERMINATION.  The reason I say that is because when I start something I have to finish it, and when they started their “tour” they finished it. 

       

So Excited...

I am excited for 3 reasons... 1 it's almost march break. 2 it's almost my birthday and 3 i am getting my new paintball gun soon, i cannot wait. I have been saving for over a month and a half and I almost have enough money. I can't wait, i am getting the tippmann alpha black tactical, it's suppose to be a really reliable gun and I hope it is because I don't want to be stuck in the middle of the field with a jammed gun. I can't wait to try it!!!!! :P   
 

Crazy Life...

I have read 102 out of 547 pages of my biography and I have to say that Slash had a really crazy childhood. He did BMX biking and destroyed property by doing so. He did drugs, drank alcohol and stole from a variety of different stores but he manly stole records and cassettes from a music store that he later worked at, which I find odd. The one thing I found really interesting is that he started playing guitar at the same age as me and he learned from an old beat up acoustic guitar that only had one string and now he’s a famous guitarist.  It makes me think that if I practice a lot that maybe I could be as good as him. Another thing I discovered that Slash and I have in common is that we both love animals. He manly stole pets from a pet store, especially lizards and snakes but he cared for animals such as I do. In conclusion I have found out that learning guitar and forming a band is a lot harder than it looks, even though I already knew learning guitar wasn’t going to be easy but now I know that forming a band takes a lot of hard work and determination. I know this because he told the stories of him and his friends forming their first band all the way to him joining Guns and Roses which was his first band that actually became famous. 

 

Got my biography!!!!

Today, I went out and got the biography I needed for my English class.  The person’s biography I chose for this project is Slash, I chose him because he is my favourite guitarist and also the person who interested me into playing guitar.  It started when I got Guitar Hero, as soon as I beat the game I unlocked more characters and Slash was one of them.  Then I started taking interest into his band, Guns and Roses and I decided that I should start playing an instrument.  So I picked the guitar.  Now I get to read about the life of one of my idols and I can’t wait to get started and I can’t wait to see how his life could be similar to mine.
